Uploading Content for Mac Users

Uploading Content for Mac Users

There are two ways for Mac users to upload content into Publicitymedia – via a Java upload applet (preferred) or via an Alternative uploader. Again, both of these options appear in a popup window.

Java Uploader on a Mac

NOTE: To use the Java uploader on a Mac, you can’t use Chrome as your browser. It works fine on Macs using up to date versions of Firefox or Internet Explorer.

To use the Java uploader, login to Publicitymedia using Firefox or Internet Explorer – don’t panic, you’ll find the general Publicitymedia experience is almost identical in every browser.

The Java Uploader is recommended if you have a lot of files or folders to upload. The Alternative Uploader can only upload five files at a time and each file is chosen individually.

Click on the grey Select File(s) button to choose file(s) and folder(s) from your Mac to upload. The Apple Finder window you normally see will pop up and allow you to navigate and select multiple file(s) or folder(s) in the same way you would normally do on your Mac.

Choose the file(s) or folder(s) that you want to upload and click the Mac’s Choose button to start uploading your files.

You’ll notice the Java applet dialogue window keeps you informed about how each file and the overall upload is progressing, along with details of each file as they are uploaded.

Once you have uploaded your files, you’ll be taken back to the folder you uploaded into.

Wherever possible with image, video and audio files, Publicitymedia produces a viewable/playable preview file in which case, this will be visible to you asit uses this as the file icon. Document and other file types can’t be previewed and have a more generic icon.

If you have uploaded a lot of files or large video or image files, it may take some time to produce the previews. Refreshing your browser window will show you the previews that have been generated and those still left to process.

Previews are really useful. They allow you to quickly examine and choose the right versions or edits of very similar files without having to download each file first.  You only download the exact file you need.

If you experience any technical issues using the Java uploader and only have a few files to upload, click on the Alternative Upload button in the bottom left hand corner of the Upload to Folder window.

The window will change to give you the name of the folder you are uploading to plus five Choose File buttons. Click each of these to choose one file from your computer to upload.

When you have chosen your files, click the orange Upload button and you will see a window telling you that your upload is in progress and not to close or refresh the browser window while the upload is in progress. Closing or refreshing the browser window will cancel the upload.

The alternative uploader can only upload five files at a time. If you have a lot of files to upload from your Mac, we recommend using the Java Applet (which allows easy bulk uploading) from Firefox or Internet Explorer.
